Project Enterprise – To Boldly Go…

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to what I hope is going to be the start of something amazing.

What Is This?

Project Enterprise is intended to exist as a non-profit organisation, seeking to raise funds to sink a well in an African village. This project began on LiveJournal, as part of the community ontd_startrek, a 6,000 strong group of Star Trek fans determined to ‘boldly go’ where no fan community has gone before, and truly make a difference in the world.

Who Are You?

My name’s Laura, and I’ll be your captain this evening. A 27 year-old English Literature graduate struggling to get a job in the current economy, I decided that if I couldn’t make an immediate difference to my own life, then I’d use what passion I do have to try and make a difference to the lives of others. And thus, Project Enterprise was born. I am merely one aspect of this amazing project, however. Many others work with me to make this happen, donating their time, money, goods and effort, and every one of them deserves plaudits for proving that fans, when working together, are the most wonderful people in the world.

When Is This Happening?

This idea has only been in existence 24 hours, and already, hundreds of people have offered to help. However, it’s my intent that this project take the time to set up a firm groundwork, establishing the correct contacts, forging links with related charities, and putting in the legwork to make this whole idea viable and strong and lasting. It’s my plan to spend a few months putting those foundations in place, and hopefully, with the right momentum behind us, fundraising can begin in late 2009 or early 2010, with a view to seeing the project through to completion within a year.

How Can I Help?

For now? Keep an eye right here, while the details take shape. I intend to create a website for this project, where all updates and fundraising news will be posted, and when the time comes, I will be knocking on everyone’s door who has expressed interest in donating their money or time.

Are You Finished?

I am. On a personal note, I believe in this project. I believe in the power of humanity to work for good. I believe that we can achieve something truly amazing, because to steal a line from the movie that brought us all together in the first place, “I don’t believe in no-win situations.”

- Laura.
